The way Kalki 2898 AD fared at the global box office was clearly unexpected, and the monstrous business it has managed to pull off indeed makes the makers confident about the franchise they have built. The movie, starring Amitabh Bachchan alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, was one of the most anticipated films of the year. When it opened on the big screen on June 27, fans made sure they flooded the theaters and validated the team for their unique take on the mythological epic. Kalki finds its roots in the epic tale of Ashwathaama from the Indian mythological epic Mahabharata. However, this has now also invited some problems for the filmmakers as they have been slammed with a legal notice.

Kalki 2898 AD Makers Receive Legal Notice

According to new reports, former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has now issued legal notices to Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Nag Ashwin, and the team of Kalki 2898 AD. He has accused the makers of hurting Hindu sentiments by tampering with a story that is very religious for the community. He calls Lord Kalki Narayan the center of faith for the Hindu religion, and below is all you need to know about the same.

A report in the Indian Express quotes Acharya Pramod Krishnam, who said the values of Sanatana Dharma should not be tampered with while talking about taking legal action against the team of Kalki 2898 AD. He says the scriptures of Sanatana should not be altered. He even recalled how PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of Shri Kalki Dham on February 19.

Talking about Kalki 2898 AD, he added that the film is against what is described in the scriptures, which led him and his subordinates to note down some objections and wait for a response. He says playing with Hindu sentiments has become a pastime for filmmakers. Acharya Pramod Krishnam even went on to say that freedom of expression does not mean filmmakers can play with their faith.

The notice that the Kalki 2898 AD team has received from Ujjawal Anand Sharma, Advocate of the Supreme Court of India on behalf of Acharya Pramod, reads, “Your movie has changed the basic concept about Lord Kalki from what has been written and explained in Hindu Puranic Scriptures. For these reasons, the portrayal and depiction of the story of Lord Kalki is wholly inaccurate and also blatantly disrespectful to these sacred texts, which are central to the religious beliefs and practices of a vast number of devotees, numbering in the hundreds of crores.”

“Such a depiction has already led to confusion and further has the propensity to irretrievably tarnish the mythology and ethos of Lord Kalki in the hearts and minds of devout Hindus, which will lead to misunderstanding, misinterpretation, and subsequent erosion of the Hindu faith, thereby causing extreme distress to the faith and religious sentiments of our client, and needless to say, of the wider Hindu community at large,” it added.

About Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD, earlier known as Project K, is written and directed by Nag Ashwin, who has envisioned a trilogy with the same. The movie, starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Amitabh Bachchan, is about a dystopian future where evil has taken power and the concept of God has been lost. Here comes a time when a woman is said to be nurturing Lord Kalki in her womb, and Ashwathaama is brought back to protect her. The film manages to set up a very interesting story and a franchise with a tsunami of audience validation.
