Cricketer KL Rahul has addressed the Koffee With Karan (KWK) incident, which generated significant backlash due to the 'sexist' and 'inappropriate' comments made by Hardik Pandya and himself, nearly six years after it occurred.

In a discussion on Nikhil Kamath's podcast, WTF is, Rahul expressed that the interview had a transformative effect on him. Reflecting on his childhood, he described himself as a very quiet and shy boy. However, following his debut for the Indian national team, his confidence surged. He felt entirely at ease in the company of many, noting that he could focus entirely on anyone in a room filled with a hundred people.

Rahul expressed that he no longer engages in that behavior due to the significant impact of the Koffee With Karan interview, which left him deeply affected. Being sidelined from the team was a challenging experience for him. Throughout his educational journey, he had never encountered any form of disciplinary measures such as suspension or punishment. The prominent cricketer had remained unaffected by such issues until this incident, which proved to be overwhelming for him. Following his initial setback, he gained a profound understanding of its harsh realities.

BCCI’s action and Karan Johar's response

Regarding the actions taken by the BCCI and Karan Johar's reaction, the streaming service subsequently removed the episode of the chat show in light of the scandal that emerged in 2019. After issuing apologies to both fans and teammates, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Rahul and Hardik, excluding them from the one-day international series against Australia. Additionally, the BCCI imposed a fine of ₹20 lakh on each player. Filmmaker and host Karan Johar acknowledged his significant role in the repercussions faced by the cricketers following the incident.
