Kanguva, the period fantasy film which marked the first onscreen collaboration of Suriya and director Siva, hit the theatres on November 14, 2024. Despite releasing the theatres with unparalleled hype, the actor-director duo’s ambitious film failed to impress both the audiences and critics. Meanwhile, Jyotika, the popular actress and Suriya’s wife took to her official social media handles and posted her Kanguva review. The Kaathal: The Core actress also defended the Siva directorial, in her post.
Jyotika reviews Suriya’s Kanguva
The popular actress recently took to her official social media handles and shared her Kanguva review, with a special post. Jyotika began her post with a disclaimer, that reads: “I pen this note as Jyotika and a cinema lover and not actor Suriya's wife”. The doting wife, who stated that Kanguva is a ‘spectacle in cinema’, further added that she is extremely proud of her husband, for the actor he is and how he dares to dream to take cinema forward.
Jyotika, who admitted that the jarring sound and first 30 minutes of the film didn’t work for her, however, defended the same stating that flaws are bound to happen. “Flaws r a part of most Indian films, so that’s only fair, especially in this kind of a film wherein one experiment largely! N it’s just the first 1/2 hr from the whole 3 hrs. But to be true, it’s an absolute cinematic experience!” wrote the actress in her post.
Jyotika on Kanguva’s negative reviews
The actress said that she is surprised with the negative reviews pouring in for Kanguva. She further added: “I'm surprised with the negative reviews from media and certain fraternities, as it’s not done by them to this high level for the most unintellectual big budget films I have seen earlier with age-old stories, where women r stalked, double meaning dialogues r spoken and have the most over the top action sequences...” Jyotika feels that the reviews conveniently ignored many positives of the film, including the women's action sequence.
Jyotika, who strongly reacted to the negativity surrounding Suriya’s film, remarked that it seemed more like multiple-group propaganda. She added how this is happening when Kanguva actually deserves applause for the concept and effort taken by the team to create such a 3D visual experience. “Be proud Team Kanguva, as the ones commenting negative r doing just that and nothing else to their credit to uplift cinema!” the actress concluded her post.
