Justin Baldoni's legal representatives have criticized Ryan Reynolds for attempting to have the $400 million defamation lawsuit initiated by the director of It Ends With Us dismissed. In a statement acquired by People on Wednesday, the attorney for the Jane the Virgin star alleged that the Deadpool actor is attempting to "escape the consequences."

Bryan Freedman, the attorney representing Baldoni, contended that Reynolds is “arrogantly seeking to be removed from the case despite his well-documented involvement that goes far beyond merely being a ‘supportive spouse.’”

Freedman asserted, “Mr. Reynolds played a pivotal role in the scheme,” alleging that the Free Guy actor's “involvement has been evident in this smear campaign against Justin and the Wayfarer team from the very beginning.”

The lawyer for the 41-year-old actor further stated, “Mr. Reynolds is now trying to trivialize clearly valid claims as mere 'hurt feelings,' which sends a troubling message that bullying is permissible.”

“After igniting the situation, Mr. Reynolds now attempts to escape the consequences. This will not succeed. The claims from the Wayfarer Parties against him are substantial and serious,” Freedman emphasized, warning that his team will “not relent” until justice is achieved.

“Mr. Reynolds may participate in as many sketch shows as he wishes and attempt to downplay his current predicament, but we will persist until he is held accountable for his actions,” Baldoni's attorney remarked.

Freedman's comments followed Ryan Reynolds' motion to dismiss the lawsuit that Baldoni filed against him and Blake Lively. In a filing on Tuesday, the Red Notice actor argued that the lawsuit initiated by the It Ends With Us star was based on “hurt feelings.”
