Baldoni’s lawyer responds to Sloane’s request for removal from lawsuit
Filed in the Southern District of New York, Bladoni’s attorney asserted, “The Sloane Parties were actively involved in a conspiracy aimed at causing harm to the Wayfarer Parties.” The attorney further contended, “In a desperate attempt to protect Lively’s reputation and evade her anger, the Sloane Parties colluded with Lively and enlisted defendants Ryan Reynolds and The New York Times Company to serve as scapegoats for Lively’s difficulties,” as reported by People.
The legal representatives of the Jane The Virgin actor continued by stating, “Based on information and belief, the Sloane Parties spent months disseminating breadcrumbs and insinuations of malicious allegations to the public while covertly providing defamatory falsehoods to any journalist willing to listen....”
They further remarked, “As a direct consequence of the actions taken by the Sloane Parties and their co-conspirators, the Wayfarer Parties have suffered immeasurable harm. These facts form the basis of the Wayfarer Parties’ claims against the Sloane Parties, and this is what the evidence will substantiate at trial.”
Sloane’s lawyer issued a response
In a statement reported by People magazine, Sloane’s attorney, Sigrid McCawley, managing partner at Boies Schiller Flexner, remarked, “Our motion to dismiss indicates that Leslie Sloane and her firm, Vision PR, were improperly included in this lawsuit as a diversion from serious allegations of sexual harassment and systemic retaliation.”
McCawley further noted, “It is not lost on us that Baldoni and his associates have unjustly accused Leslie Sloane of the very misconduct they are facing. The allegations against Leslie Sloane are nothing more than a baseless attempt to deflect blame.” She added, “We anticipate clarifying our reasons for dismissal and ensuring that Leslie Sloane is removed from this litigation, thereby refocusing attention on the significant issues and allegations presented to the court.”
Lively has initiated legal action against Baldoni, his publicists, producer Jamey Heath, Wayfarer Studios, and co-founder Steve Sarowitz, alleging sexual harassment and a retaliatory smear campaign aimed at damaging her reputation, which Baldoni has denied. Subsequently, Sloane and Vision PR were drawn into the legal proceedings, with the publicist’s February filing contending that their inclusion was part of a "smoke-and-mirrors exercise" intended to distract from the accusations made by the 37-year-old. Sloane has denied any participation in disseminating "malicious stories" or orchestrating a smear campaign.
In their motion to dismiss, Sloane's legal team also defended Lively, countering Baldoni's assertion that the case revolves around creative differences regarding It Ends With Us. The filing stated, “Baldoni’s claims concerning creative matters are irrelevant and reflect a troublingly sexist perspective. Because Ms. Lively — an executive producer on the film — dared to provide input on the script, wardrobe, and editing, Baldoni labels her as 'tyrannical' and 'aggressive,' among other coded descriptors." The legal proceedings between Lively and Baldoni are set to go to trial in March 2026.
