An interview that has recently come to light has sparked renewed speculation regarding Taylor Swift's role in the casting of It Ends With Us, the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's acclaimed novel. Director Justin Baldoni and actress Isabela Ferrer have indicated that Swift played a significant role in endorsing a crucial casting choice—an aspect that had previously received little attention.

Taylor Swift’s surprising influence on It Ends With Us

In a recently rediscovered segment from an Access Hollywood interview, Justin Baldoni, the director of It Ends With Us, disclosed that he consulted both Blake Lively and Taylor Swift during the casting process for Isabela Ferrer in the film. Ferrer portrays the younger iteration of Lively’s character, Lily.

“I had presented her casting tape to Blake and Taylor, and they both responded enthusiastically, ‘Yes! Her,’” Baldoni recounted. He commended Ferrer’s abilities and her striking resemblance to Lively, referring to her as a “phenomenal actress.”

Isabela Ferrer confirms Swift’s role

Ferrer confirmed this information in an interview with Extra at the film's premiere. She acknowledged that Swift played a role in her casting, although she was not aware of it at the time.

"I’m not sure if I should be sharing this, but I will!" Ferrer expressed with enthusiasm. "Indeed, she was a significant influence during the audition process, something I learned only after I was cast—and it completely amazed me. I am at a loss for words."

Blake Lively and Swift’s deep involvement

Blake Lively, the actress in the leading role, has discussed Taylor Swift's involvement with the film. In a 2024 interview with CBS Mornings, Lively disclosed that she reached out to Swift to obtain permission for the inclusion of her song "My Tears Ricochet" in both the film's trailer and soundtrack.

"This was indeed a low-budget production... We never imagined we could feature one of her songs, but it was essential," Lively stated, highlighting Swift's encouragement during the entire process.

Swift caught in the legal drama between Lively and Baldoni

Recent reports indicate that, despite Taylor Swift's apparent involvement in the casting and soundtrack, she may have been inadvertently drawn into a legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.

In January, Baldoni initiated a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, alleging defamation in light of accusations of misconduct during filming. His legal filings mention Swift, asserting that Lively attempted to leverage her influence, along with that of her husband Ryan Reynolds, to exert pressure on him throughout the production process.

One text message that Lively purportedly sent to Baldoni made a reference to Game of Thrones, in which she described herself as “Khaleesi” and referred to Reynolds and Swift as her “dragons” who “protect those I fight for.” Baldoni’s legal representatives contended that this remark suggested he was not only contending with Lively but also facing pressure from two of the most influential figures in the entertainment industry.

According to Page Six, the ongoing legal conflict has put a strain on Swift and Lively’s long-standing friendship. Sources close to Swift have reported that she feels “used” and is displeased with being characterized as one of Lively’s “dragons.” Insiders have also claimed that the singer was unaware of a meeting with Baldoni when she was invited to Lively’s penthouse.
