Junaid Khan Expresses Desire to Release Loveyapa for Free on YouTube: 'It's Not Feasible'

Junaid Khan, who got a lot of love for his first film Maharaj, is back on the big screen with his upcoming movie, Loveyapa. This romantic comedy is based on the popular Tamil film Love Today and features Khushi Kapoor alongside him. As the release date approaches, Junaid chats with an online media about his transition from OTT to cinema and other interesting topics.

Junaid Khan talks about the release of Loveyapa

Junaid's first film, Maharaj, went straight to Netflix, so Loveyapa will be his first one hitting theaters. But he doesn’t think the switch in platforms really matters. "Honestly, I don’t feel much of a difference. At the end of the day, a film is a film, and they all mean a lot to us. When it comes to how to distribute it, I trust the experts to make the right call. For me, ideally, I’d love to just put it out for free on YouTube so everyone can see it. But I get that’s not really practical," he shares.

When asked why he prefers it to be free on YouTube, he says, "I just want it to reach as many people as possible. I’ll leave the marketing decisions to those who know best how to get it out there."

Still, he feels that the debate over streaming versus cinema isn’t really for artists to tackle. "This is a question for distributors and producers. For us artists, nothing really changes," he explains.

Junaid discussing Loveyapa compared to Love Today

Loveyapa is a fresh take on the Tamil hit Love Today. Junaid believes that being a remake doesn’t diminish the film’s originality. "Love stories have this timeless quality, you know? I found the script really exciting and fun to work on. Plus, I think a lot of people are just drawn to what looks interesting, regardless of whether it’s a remake or not," he shares.

Directed by Advait Chandan, Loveyapa features Khushi and Junaid, along with Ashutosh Rana and Kiku Sharda. The movie hits theaters on February 7.
