In light of the intensifying legal dispute involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, writer-director Judd Apatow has drawn public attention to the conflict between the co-stars of It Ends With Us. While serving as the host of the 77th Annual Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards, Judd referred to the film's upcoming 2024 release as a 'terrible movie' during his opening monologue.

What Judd Apatow said

According to a report from People, Judd expressed, "I thoroughly enjoyed Wicked. I attended it four times within the first four days. It stands as the highest-grossing movie musical in history. Are you aware of that? Typically, to achieve such financial success, one would need to take legal action against Blake Lively. There is an excessive amount of criticism directed at such a poor film."

About the legal battle

Blake has accused Justin of sexual harassment, asserting that he initiated a smear campaign against her. These claims were made public through a complaint submitted to the California Civil Rights Department, which subsequently developed into a formal lawsuit. In response, Justin filed a counter-suit against Blake and her spouse, actor Ryan Reynolds, alleging defamation. The trial is anticipated to commence next year, with a date set for May 2026.

"It Ends With Us," directed by Justin Baldoni, is an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s acclaimed novel. The narrative follows Lily Bloom (portrayed by Blake), who falls in love with a neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid (played by Justin). However, their relationship becomes increasingly complex due to her past traumas and the return of her first love, Atlas Corrigan. The film was released globally in theatres in August of last year.

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) Awards took place in Beverly Hills, where Sean Baker received the DGA Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Theatrical Feature Film for "Anora." India's Payal Kapadia was nominated for her debut theatrical feature film "All We Imagine As Light," but ultimately lost to RaMell Ross for "Nickel Boys."
