Today, January 18, marks the 29th death anniversary of the legendary actor and politician NT Rama Rao. In commemoration of this occasion, his grandsons, actors Jr NTR and Nandamuri Kalyan Ram, paid their respects at NTR Ghat in Hyderabad.

Jr NTR, Kalyan Ram visit NTR Ghat

Brothers Jr NTR and Kalyan Ram paid a visit to NTR Ghat on Saturday morning. They were observed placing floral tributes at their grandfather's memorial and bowing their heads in respect. Dressed in black T-shirts, they appeared sombre. Additionally, they took a moment to sit beside the memorial, observing two minutes of silence in memory of their late grandfather.

NT Rama Rao was a distinguished figure in the Telugu film industry, serving as an actor, director, producer, and editor, in addition to holding the position of chief minister of Andhra Pradesh for a duration of seven years. He was honoured with three National Awards for his contributions as a co-producer of Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960), as well as for directing Lava Kusa (1963). His portrayal of mythological characters in over 300 films throughout his career earned him widespread acclaim. He passed away from a heart attack at his residence in Hyderabad on January 18, 1996.

NT Rama Rao's 101st birth anniversary

Last year, the nation and the film industry commemorated the 101st birth anniversary of NT Rama Rao. During this event, Jr NTR and Kalyan Ram paid their respects by laying floral tributes at NTR Ghat, honouring their grandfather. Nandamuri Balakrishna, the late actor's son and a prominent figure in both acting and politics, was also present, reflecting on his father's legacy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his homage to NT Rama Rao on X, stating, “Remembering the legendary NTR on his birth anniversary. He was a remarkable icon of Telugu cinema and a visionary leader. His contributions to film and politics continue to inspire generations. From his unforgettable roles on screen to his transformative leadership, he is fondly remembered. We will keep working to fulfil his vision for our society.”

In terms of upcoming projects, Jr NTR is set to appear in War 2, Devara: Part 2, and a film directed by Prashanth Neel. Meanwhile, Kalyan Ram's most recent appearance was in Devil: The British Secret Agent.
