John Abraham Calls Out Actors for Inflated Fees & ‘Mental’ Entourages
1 month ago | 5 Views
Actor John Abraham has expressed his discontent regarding certain colleagues in the Hindi film industry who he believes are excessively exploiting the system through their exorbitant fees and extravagant entourage expenses. Previously, filmmakers Karan Johar and Farah Khan have also highlighted the issue of escalating entourage costs associated with actors. John has now contributed to this ongoing discussion by calling for a change among his peers in the Hindi cinema.
John Abraham on actors' fees
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, John addressed the topic of actors demanding ₹100 crore per day and stylists requesting ₹2 lakh per day, labeling such practices as "mental." He remarked, “This is already detrimental to Hindi cinema. At this juncture, we should not be compensating individuals to perform in films, as we cannot justify the enormous budgets and fees we receive. We cannot burden a film with additional entourage expenses. It is absurd. I am uncertain whether actors are genuinely considering this or if their agents are influencing their perceptions. I find it difficult to comprehend. While I recognize that one can become insulated in this industry, it is essential to remain grounded. If you are surrounded by sycophants, it is time to confront reality. As an industry, we are indeed facing significant challenges.”
John further offered guidance to his fellow actors in Hindi cinema, stating, “Actors must acknowledge that we are in a precarious situation, and they should engage more actively in the filmmaking process. They should assert that if films are profitable, they too will benefit financially, as they have rightfully earned their wealth. How much longer will you continue to drain the system? However, it is important to note that one cannot achieve success alone; there are producers willing to pay these exorbitant sums as well.”
The discourse surrounding actors' fees and the increasing budgets of films in Hindi cinema has persisted for several years. Recently, the underperformance of numerous high-budget films at the box office has brought this issue back into focus.
