John Abraham has once again captured public attention due to the excitement surrounding his forthcoming film, The Diplomat. In this project, he takes on the role of a bureaucrat, and anticipation among his fans is palpable as they await its release. Nevertheless, The Diplomat is not the sole project garnering interest; several of his other films are also creating a buzz. Notably, 1911 and the biopic of Rakesh Maria have been subjects of considerable discussion. Recently, the actor announced that 1911 has been put on hold, while talks regarding the biopic are still in progress.

1911 Shelved

For those who may not be aware, 1911 was expected to be a joint effort between director Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham, following their successful collaboration on Madras Cafe. The film was intended to be a period drama focused on football, chronicling the triumph of the Mohun Bagan team, led by Shibdas Bhaduri, in the IFA Shield Final of 1911.

However, during an interview with PTI, John Abraham confirmed that the project is no longer moving forward. "Unfortunately, that film's not happening because we've been through a lot of processes. The idea sounds good, but we've seen many films about football. Do we still want to make it? Yes, in the future. But for now, we’ve put it on hold."

John Abraham Confirms Talks for the Rakesh Maria Biopic

In the meantime, reports indicate that John is currently engaged in discussions to portray Rakesh Maria, the former Commissioner of Mumbai Police. Maria played a crucial role in resolving significant cases, including the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin blasts, and the 2008 Mumbai attacks (26/11).

John has confirmed that conversations regarding the biopic are ongoing, although no agreements have been reached as of yet. "The Rakesh Maria biopic is still in the discussion stage. I haven’t signed a single film. Right now, I’m waiting for the release of The Diplomat, and after that, I have an exciting film, Tehran. I haven’t signed anything yet, but once I do, I’ll let everyone know."
