Katy Perry's all-female space mission with Blue Origin has encountered backlash. Earlier this week, the singer participated in an 11-minute journey to space alongside Lauren Sanchez, television host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist and research scientist Amanda Nguyen.

However, several Hollywood celebrities, including Emily Ratajkowski, Amy Schumer, and Olivia Wilde, criticized the initiative as inappropriate. Adding her voice to the dissent is actress Jessica Chastain, who published an opinion piece describing the mission as an ‘utter defeat of American feminism.’

What Jessica Chastain shared

Jessica took to her X account to share a Guardian opinion piece which had the title, “Opinion | The Blue Origin flight showcased the utter defeat of American feminism - The Guardian.” Although the actor was not the author of the piece, the fact that she shared the essay with her almost 1 million followers clearly stated her take on the issue.

A passage from the work stated, “The majority of the crew's self-presentation and marketing of the flight has relied significantly on a concept of women's empowerment that lacks depth and is characterized by a naive, playful frivolity, which diminishes women by carelessly associating their gender with superficiality, vanity, and a lack of seriousness.”

About the space mission

The Blue Origin space mission has faced significant backlash from various celebrities. Previously, actress Emily Ratajkowski expressed her disapproval, stating she was 'disgusted' by the mission, while Olivia Munn described the flight as 'somewhat gluttonous.'

Katy Perry broadcast her space journey live from the Blue Origin rocket, which lasted approximately 11 minutes. Alongside five other women, the singer returned safely to Earth. Following the flight, Katy reflected on her experience, sharing that she felt "deeply connected to life" and "profoundly connected to love."
