Titled "Like Jennie," the song is set to be released this Friday, and a brief 9-second teaser was shared on social media on Tuesday. While the teaser received acclaim from the singer's fans, listeners from the South Asian community expressed curiosity, noting its striking resemblance to the theme associated with Alia Bhatt's character Rani from Karan Johar's 2023 film, "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani."

Did Jennie copy Alia Bhatt's theme?

Jennie's song teaser showcases pulsating beats accompanied by vocals that repeatedly mention her name. The rhythm and cadence bear a striking resemblance to Rani's theme from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, a similarity that did not escape the notice of several fans. One user responded to the Like Jennie teaser by tweeting Rani's theme, commenting, "The copy paste (crying emoji) she’s shameless." Another remarked, “This is the same song; even the vocals are alike.”

Numerous fans expressed their disappointment regarding the plagiarism accusation directed at Jennie concerning a song created by Pritam, who has also faced similar allegations in the past. One tweet stated, "I cannot believe Jennie is plagiarizing Pritam, of all people. Bollywood, of all genres." Another K-pop enthusiast remarked, “#BLACKPINK's Jennie has allegedly copied the song Rani Anthem from the film Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which credits Indian artist Pritam, in a manner that appears indistinguishable.”

Not necessarily a copy, say fans

Certain users of X (formerly Twitter) expressed caution regarding the matter. One individual noted that the similarity of the song does not inherently imply that Jennie plagiarized Pritam, as it is possible that Pritam drew inspiration from an older Korean song for Rani's theme, a practice he has engaged in previously.

A supporter contended that Pritam has essentially replicated "Pehli Nazar Mein" note for note from a Korean song without providing any acknowledgment. They suggested that he may have similarly sampled the introduction from another international track without legally attributing it, in contrast to Jennie, who is expected to provide proper sampling credits.
