Age remains one of the most significant taboos in Hollywood.
During the Sunday screening of her latest film, Unstoppable, Jennifer Lopez and her supporters were taken aback when an interviewer made a remark regarding her age. The 55-year-old icon engaged in a conversation with Clayton Davis, Senior Awards Editor at Variety, during the event.
The interviewer makes an age-related remark towards Jennifer Lopez.
According to a video released by TMZ, it appears that Davis may not have intended any malice with his comments regarding her age. Last month, he also interviewed the actress from Hustlers for Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast. In acknowledging her extensive contributions to the entertainment industry over the decades, he reminded her, “I can’t believe it’s been 30 years since Selena.” Jennifer Lopez portrayed the titular character in the 1997 biopic about the legendary Mexican-American singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez, which remains one of her most acclaimed performances.
He further remarked, “I can't believe that in 30 years we're going to do a retrospective of this, and you will be 60 by then, which is…” This reflection on the passage of time and the legacy already created by Lopez left the singer-actress momentarily at a loss for words. She simply responded, “Wow.”
Jennifer Lopez, appearing somewhat taken aback, expresses her gratitude to her fans for their enduring support over the years.
Lopez, seemingly taken aback, quietly affirmed, “I am.” In an effort to clarify the situation, Davis remarked that it was simply a “joke.” Conversely, Jennifer did not seem particularly upset by the comment regarding her age. Speaking directly to the audience, she expressed her appreciation for those who have remained supportive throughout her journey. “What a journey this has been,” she conveyed to the crowd. “I genuinely believe that the best is yet to come.”
“I truly believe that my creativity and my identity as an artist, as you mentioned... I also perceive this experience as a deeper exploration of my identity, both personally and artistically. Such roles have a transformative effect on you.”
Further elaborating, she noted that roles of this nature “arrive at pivotal moments in your life when you need them, facilitating personal growth and healing in a unique way.”
The “Dance Again” singer chose a blue outfit, drawing attention to her sheer shirt, for the screening of Unstoppable, a film co-produced by her former husband, Ben Affleck. This public appearance for the movie occurred just days after the ex-spouses united to support their children in a school play, where Affleck’s ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, was also present.
