Actor and Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament Jaya Bachchan has expressed her support for stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra amid the ongoing controversy surrounding his recent comments. While addressing the media at the Parliament premises, Jaya raised concerns about the constraints on freedom of expression.

In her remarks regarding the uproar and the vandalism at the comedy club, Jaya stated, as reported by news agency ANI, "If there are limitations on what you can say, what will happen to you? Your situation is already dire. You face restrictions. You are told to speak only on certain topics and not to interview Jaya Bachchan."
She further questioned, "Where is the freedom of speech? Freedom of action seems to exist only when there is chaos—attacking the opposition, committing violence against women, and murder. What more? You (Eknath Shinde) abandoned your original party to create a new one for power. Isn't that a disrespect to Balasaheb?"
Other political figures, including MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT), have also stepped forward to advocate for Kunal Kamra's right to free expression and to condemn the actions of those who vandalized the Mumbai venue where his performance took place. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant defended Kunal, asserting that every statement made by the comedian in his special, Naya Bharat, was factual.
What did Kunal say, all about row
Regarding the controversy, Kunal reportedly made disparaging comments about Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a performance. The situation at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai intensified when a group affiliated with the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) youth wing disrupted the ongoing show, leading to its abrupt cancellation and causing considerable damage to the set. An FIR has been lodged against Kunal for his contentious remarks, as well as against the youth wing of Shiv Sena for the vandalism.
Sub Inspector Vijay from the Khar police station reported that the group focused on the venue following the release of Kunal's stand-up special, Naya Bharat. The activities of the youth wing of Shiv Sena have ignited considerable discussion regarding the boundaries of protest and the right to free expression.
