Jay-Z's Legal Counsel Asserts Rapper Is Unrelated to Sean 'Diddy' Combs in Rape Lawsuit

Jay-Z's legal representative, Alex Spiro, has released a statement clarifying his client's separation from Sean 'Diddy' Combs in light of grave accusations that the hip-hop mogul sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl. On Monday, Spiro spoke to the media about the professional connection between Jay-Z, whose birth name is Shawn Carter, and Diddy, who is currently confronting a growing number of sexual assault lawsuits while in custody.
Jay-Z has ‘nothing to do’ with Diddy
A video circulated online features the lawyer stating, “Mr Carter is not involved in Mr Combs’ case or with Mr Combs himself. They have known each other in a professional capacity for several years,” during a statement made at Roc Nation’s headquarters in New York.
He elaborated, “In every profession, individuals are acquainted with one another. They support each other at music award events and attend the NBA All-Star Game together. This is simply the nature of professional relationships.” Spiro emphasized that “there is no closer connection” between the two rappers, as reported by Page Six.
Furthermore, the attorney remarked, “That is the extent of their relationship. He is unaware of the charges or allegations against him. He is not involved in that case, and there is nothing further to discuss.”
Jane Doe has initiated a lawsuit against Sean "Diddy" Combs, alleging that he raped her at a house party following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. She also claims to have been raped by an unnamed male celebrity while being observed by an unnamed female celebrity. On December 8, Jay-Z was included in the lawsuit as the alleged perpetrator.
In response, Jay-Z, who categorically denies the allegations, has sought to have the case dismissed and has requested that the accuser be publicly identified, asserting that the woman’s attorney is attempting to "blackmail" him.
Inconsistency in accuser’s story
On Friday, Doe participated in an interview with NBC News, during which she admitted to discrepancies in her narrative, particularly regarding her father's involvement in picking her up after the alleged assaults and the specific location of the incidents. She stated to the outlet, “There are numerous aspects, and this is a topic of frequent disagreement, particularly concerning something he mentioned or did in New York during that time, which he simply does not recall. It often leads to significant disputes within the household.”
On Monday, Spiro informed reporters that the inconsistencies in the woman's account were “not minor,” asserting that they serve to demonstrate that her story “never occurred.” He emphasized, “I want to clarify this: When individuals fabricate a narrative, whether intentionally or due to memory lapses, they can typically retain the essential elements of the story.”
The attorney elaborated, “They may repeat it incessantly; this is what transpired, that core element. However, they will invariably misremember the details. When an event is fictitious, when it has not taken place, the details will be inaccurate because the individual was not genuinely present,” as reported by Page Six, further stating, “[This was] not possible. It’s because this never happened.”
Both music moguls have categorically denied all allegations against them, with Diddy scheduled to stand trial on May 5 of the following year.
