After a prolonged period of hostility, Javed Akhtar and Kangana Ranaut have successfully resolved their defamation conflict. Furthermore, the esteemed lyricist has moved on from previous grievances. Akhtar recently expressed, with his characteristic wit, that he is eager to embrace new challenges ahead.

Javed Akhtar on resolving differences with Kangana Ranaut

In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, the former screenwriter addressed the resolution of his differences with Ranaut. The legal matters have been settled, and she has retracted both her statements and the allegations made against him. She has made a firm commitment to refrain from such actions in the future. Ranaut conveyed her remorse for the difficulties she caused Akhtar and has withdrawn from the legal dispute. He further clarified that he did not seek financial compensation; rather, he desired an apology, which he has received. Akhtar is not pursuing any further demands.

When asked by a reporter about his feelings of happiness and satisfaction, the lyricist responded with a smile, "Nahi, ab dekhta hoon (No, now let me see)." He also indicated that he would soon identify another issue to address.

Five-year legal battle comes to an end

A five-year legal dispute concluded with a settlement in the defamation lawsuits involving Kangana Ranaut and Akhtar. The actor informed her followers on Instagram by posting a cheerful photo of the two, conveying the positive news.

Ranaut and Akhtar not only addressed their legal matters concerning a defamation case but also engaged in a constructive mediation session. During this meeting, Akhtar was notably generous with his time and committed to supplying lyrics for her forthcoming directorial project.

Origins of the dispute: 2020 interview

The interview conducted by Ranaut with a news channel in 2020, in the aftermath of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's passing, ignited a legal conflict between the two parties. During this interview, Ranaut alleged that Akhtar pressured her to issue an apology to Hrithik Roshan. This situation traces back to a lawsuit filed by her Krish 3 co-star in 2016, which stemmed from a public altercation regarding comments made about their alleged relationship.

Ranaut further asserted that Akhtar described Rakesh Roshan and his family as highly influential figures, recalling an instance when Akhtar invited her to his residence. She claimed that Akhtar warned her that without an apology, she would not be taken seriously by anyone. Following her incarceration, she expressed that her only alternative would be to take her own life, although she firmly stated that suicide was not an option. Ranaut maintained that these were his precise words, recounting a moment when she felt intimidated and frightened during their encounter at his home.

Following that, Akhtar initiated an extensive defamation lawsuit against her. The conflict between the two concluded last week when they both retracted their complaints from the Bandra magistrate court.

A misunderstanding was the basis for Ranaut's remarks during the July 2020 interview, which she later recognized in her apology. She assured him that she would refrain from repeating any of the statements made during the interview on July 19, 2020, and has decided to withdraw all of them moving forward. In addition to her agreement to dismiss her complaint, Ranaut conveyed her regret for any distress she may have caused Akhtar and acknowledged her respect for him.
