Javed Akhtar Praises Mammootty and Mohanlal's friendship in a social media post

Akhtar expressed on his X page that it would be remarkable if every Mammootty in India had a companion like Mohanlal, and vice versa. Some small-minded, self-absorbed, and pessimistic individuals clearly fail to comprehend the depth of their significant friendship, but it hardly matters.

In his tweet, he stated, "I hope every Mammootty in India has a friend like Mohanlal, and every Mohanlal has a friend like Mammootty. It is evident that their profound friendship is beyond the grasp of certain narrow-minded, petty, and negative individuals, but who really cares? (sic)"

Sabarimala controversy

A debate has emerged regarding Mohanlal's recent pilgrimage to Sabarimala, where he allegedly offered prayers for his fellow actor Mammootty. On March 18, during the "Usha puja," Mohanlal presented a note to the temple priest, indicating that Mammootty's birth name is Muhammed Kutty and that his birth star is Vishakham. Following this, a receipt from the Devaswom office confirming these details gained widespread attention online.

In Kerala, the management of Hindu temple properties falls under the jurisdiction of devaswom boards, which operate as independent entities within the state government. Reactions to Mohanlal's act varied significantly; some viewed it as a demonstration of interfaith solidarity, while others criticized it as contrary to Islamic teachings regarding prayers for a Muslim.

Mohanlal downplays the issue

When questioned about Mammootty's participation in a puja at Sabarimala, Mohanlal dismissed the matter. In an interview with NDTV in Mumbai, he revealed that he had also submitted the names and details of Mammootty and his family.

Mohanlal had earlier expressed that offering prayers for Mammootty was entirely appropriate, emphasizing that such rituals are personal in nature. He noted that the puja took place following a minor health issue experienced by the actor.

Prithviraj Sukumaran, who accompanied Mohanlal, remarked that they had engaged in a similar practice in the past. He pointed out that this particular incident had garnered media attention.

May it transcend borders globally and bring pride to the entire Malayalam film industry. I am cheering for you, dear Lal and Prithvi."

In response, Mohanlal commented, "Certain moments resonate deeply… When they come from my brother, they become invaluable. Thank you, Ichakka. This truly means a lot! @mammukka"

In addition, prior to the theatrical debut of L2: Empuraan on Thursday, Mohanlal dedicated Wednesday to expressing his gratitude to fans worldwide for their unwavering support.
