When Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal was released in 2023, it became a blockbuster at the box office. However, the film also garnered a lot of criticism for the portrayal of some controversial scenes in the action drama. Javed Akhtar was one of the filmmakers who took a dig at the film and pointed out the negative aspects of a few scenes. Recently, he opened up if Ranbir can become a star like Amitabh Bachchan and if he will ever write a film for the actor.

Will Javed Akhtar ever write a film for Ranbir Kapoor?

In a recent interview with Indian Express, Javed Akhtar said that characters like ‘angry young man’ do not exist in films nowadays. He also mentioned that his characters which were played by Amitabh Bachchan and gave him the iconic title were because he had pain in his eyes and anger behind his hurt. He said, “Then they forgot about the hurt, and there was only anger, which was crude. And that is how the angry young man went out of the scene.”

Javed Akhtar, whose life story and film journey was recently shown in the documentary series Angry Young Men also mentioned that today’s stars aren’t great due to the lack of great characters. Akhtar was then asked, “So you're saying Ranbir Kapoor will never be a star like Amitabh (Bachchan) because he's done a film like Animal?” In response, he stated, “No, no. I may write a film for him,” and then gave a smile.

Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga featured Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Triptii Dimri. The film became controversial as well as blockbusters together.

Meanwhile, Javed Akhtar was recently featured in the show ‘Angry Young Men’ which focused on the dynamic duo Salim-Javed. The show is directed by Namrata Rao and produced by Salman Khan Films, Excel Media and Entertainment, and Tiger Baby.
