Lyricist Javed Akhtar has finally put his long-running dispute with actor and MP Kangana Ranaut to rest by resolving their defamation case. He’s moved on from the past and is ready for new adventures. With his usual humor, Javed recently quipped that he’s looking forward to tackling some new challenges.

Recently, Javed had a quick chat with Aaj Tak where he talked about resolving his issues with Kangana.

"Yeah, everything's been sorted out. She’s taken back her statements and the accusations. She promised she won’t do it again and apologized for the trouble she caused me. She also dropped her case. I didn’t ask for any money in the defamation suit; I just wanted an apology, and I got that," Javed shared.

When the reporter asked if he felt happy and at ease, Javed chuckled and replied, "Not really, I’ll see. I might just take on another challenge."

Kangana Ranaut and Javed Akhtar are locked in a legal battle

After a lengthy five-year legal battle, actor-turned-politician Kangana and lyricist Javed have finally reached a settlement in their defamation lawsuits against each other. Kangana shared the news with her fans on Instagram, posting a cheerful photo of herself alongside Javed.

“Today, Javed ji and I have settled our legal dispute (defamation case) through mediation. Javed ji has been incredibly kind and gracious during this process, and he even agreed to write songs for my upcoming directorial project,” Kangana wrote in her post.

The conflict between them began after Kangana's 2020 interview with a news channel following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. In that interview, she claimed that Javed had urged her to apologize to Hrithik Roshan, her co-star from Krrish 3, who had previously filed a lawsuit against her seeking an apology after a public disagreement regarding their rumored relationship.

“Once, Javed Akhtar invited me to his home and warned me that Rakesh Roshan (Hrithik's father) and his family are very influential. He said if I didn’t apologize, I would have nowhere to turn, that they could have me jailed, and that it would lead to my destruction… that I might even take my own life. Those were his exact words. He yelled at me, and I was trembling in his house,” Kangana recounted during the interview.

This led to Javed filing a defamation suit against her, which dragged on for several years.

The fight is over

Last week, Kangana and Javed put an end to their conflict, with both sides dropping their complaints at the Bandra magistrate court.

In her statement, Kangana recognized that her comments from the July 2020 interview stemmed from a misunderstanding. “I fully retract all the statements I made during the interview on 19.07.2020 and afterward, and I promise not to repeat them in the future,” she said. She also expressed her apologies for any trouble caused to Javed, showing her respect for him and agreeing to withdraw her complaint.
