In January, Jasleen Royal's eagerly awaited role as the opening act for Coldplay's concerts in Mumbai drew significant backlash from attendees. Many users on social media expressed their disapproval of her performance. Recently, the artist has addressed the criticism and the mounting pressure she faced behind the scenes while touring the country for her opening set, as revealed in a new documentary video posted on her YouTube channel.

What Jasleen said

In the video, Jasleen was observed preparing for her performance at DY Patil Stadium on the inaugural day of the tour. Unfortunately, the performance did not meet expectations, leading to significant backlash on social media regarding the singer's delivery. In response to the criticism, Jasleen acknowledged the feedback and discussed it with her entire team. She remarked, “Yaar, kal nahi hua tha. Kal problem kya hua tha? In-ears phat kyu rahe the mere? (It wasn’t fine yesterday. What was the problem yesterday? Why were my in-ears bursting?)".

‘I am still processing’

She further remarked, “At a certain point, I can sense that it’s time to return home. The pressure is immense. I feel overwhelmed. I am still processing everything; there is much to consider.” The following day proved to be more successful, with the singer expressing her gratitude to the audience from the stage for their support.

Later in the video, when Jasleen was inquired about her biggest source of anxiety, she responded, “I fear that people might question my presence here or wonder why I am performing instead of just wanting Coldplay! As a self-taught musician, I recognize my imperfections. I strive to learn and improve myself every day. My goal is to deliver an outstanding performance so that the audience has a memorable experience.”

During her opening act, Jasleen commenced with her song Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and subsequently performed a duet with Coldplay's lead singer, Chris Martin, on We Pray, a song from the band's latest album, Moon Music. While some audience members appreciated her performance, a larger portion expressed disappointment, noting a nervousness in her voice.
