Actor Vijay has expressed a firm intention to transition from his film career to politics, a decision he confirmed during the first-anniversary meeting of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), held in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. According to a report by the Times of India, he stated that he plans to retire from acting following his 69th film, titled Jana Nayagan.

Vijay about his swan song

Although Vijay currently ranks among the leading actors in Kollywood, he has no desire to continue his film career. Many in the industry had hoped he would remain active in acting post-elections, leading to uncertainty regarding whether Jana Nayagan would be his last project.

At the meeting, Vijay clarified his position, dispelling any doubts. He confirmed that his 69th film, directed by H Vinoth, will signify the conclusion of his acting endeavors, addressing critics who questioned his shift in focus. He emphasized his commitment to politics and the welfare of the community.

Final film and political career

In February of the previous year, Vijay established the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, announcing his intention to run in the 2026 elections. He conducted his inaugural conference in October to discuss his political beliefs. In September, it was revealed that he had signed on for his 69th film with Vinoth, which will be produced by the Bengaluru-based KVN Production. The project was introduced with the tagline, “The torchbearer of democracy… arriving soon.”

The first look of Vijay in Jana Nayagan was unveiled in January, showcasing him with a whip, which led to comparisons with the late actor-politician MG Ramachandran, who also served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film will feature a cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, among others. Recently, there have been rumors suggesting that the film may be a remake of Anil Ravipudi’s Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari, though official confirmation is still pending.
