Last week, Director James Gunn released a new teaser for the highly anticipated reboot of Superman. Although the teaser featured much of the footage previously shown in the initial trailer, it also included some fresh visuals, notably the first glimpse of David Corenswet's Superman in flight.

In response to David Corenswet's portrayal of Superman, many viewers expressed excitement over the new visuals and the exhilarating sight of Superman soaring through the air in this reboot. However, some critics noted that close-up images of the character appeared somewhat unusual. Several comments described Corenswet as having a 'goofy' appearance, with his eyes perceived as being too widely spaced. Others pointed to what they deemed 'poor CGI' as the cause of this unintended effect.

On Monday, after Gunn shared the new teaser on Threads, a user commented, "Looks dope!! Great camera angle of Superman flying!! Except there's something with his face that looks a little off. I know there's plenty of time to refine the CG." Gunn replied on Tuesday, clarifying, “There is absolutely zero CG in his face. People’s faces can look different when you put a wide angle lens up close. The background plate in Svalbard is 100% real, as is David.”

Gunn's clarification sheds light on the perceived oddity of Corenswet's facial features in the teaser. It is well-known that wide-angle lenses can distort facial characteristics when used in close proximity, which appears to be the case in the latest Superman teaser.
