For emerging actor Jaiwanth, who has appeared in a limited number of films, the release of his recent project, Viduthalai: Part 2, marks the realization of a long-held aspiration, as he takes on a supporting role. His journey has spanned 15 years, beginning with his debut film, Mathiya Chennai, where he portrayed the lead character. Following a few initial projects, Jaiwanth established a firm presence in the industry when he secured a role in a film directed by Vetrimaaran, which has become a notable highlight in his career.
Viduthalai 2 actor Jaiwanth Interview
It has been thirteen years since I first sought an opportunity from Vetrimaaran sir. My childhood friend, Johnson, is acquainted with him, which facilitated my introduction. I have had the privilege of meeting him on a few occasions, but it is only now that I have the chance to collaborate on his films. He recalled my earlier request for opportunities, and after several years, it seems I have remained in his thoughts. I take great pride in being part of his esteemed school of acting, Jaiwanth expresses.
In Viduthalai: Part 2, Jaiwanth portrays one of the secondary antagonists and is featured in a fight sequence that occurs just before the intermission. The actor notes that antagonists in Vetrimaaran’s films are consistently strong and memorable, and he aspires to avoid being typecast in a single category of roles. “In Kaatu Paya Sir Intha Kaali and Mathiya Chennai, I took on lead roles, while in Theerkadarishi, I played a significant character alongside others. Portraying a villain presents a unique challenge, as the character is often in opposition to the hero,” Jaiwanth remarks, expressing his pleasure in performing to Ilaiyaaraja’s music once more after Mathiya Chennai.
Struggles of 15 years
Jaiwanth expresses that despite his 15 years of experience in the industry, he felt persistent pressure due to the esteemed cast of Viduthalai, which includes Vijay Sethupathi and Kishore, along with the direction of Vetrimaaran and the musical score by Ilaiyaraaja. The emerging actor notes that he gained significant insights throughout the filmmaking process. With stunt choreography by Peter Hein, Jaiwanth mentions that he performed most of the fight scenes himself, with only a few exceptions, which greatly enhanced his confidence. Regarding the lessons learned from Vetrimaaran, he states that an actor can approach the role as a blank slate, with the director guiding the performance. "He is a perfectionist, and there is much to learn from him. He embodies a university of knowledge, and the perspective you gain after his mentorship fundamentally alters your approach to cinema and acting, benefiting future projects," Jaiwanth remarks. He expresses satisfaction in portraying a character that serves as a pivotal influence for the protagonist, Vijay Sethupathi, in his transformation into the Vaathiyar.
Jaiwanth expresses that collaborating with Vijay Sethupathi has been a positive experience, highlighting the actor's supportive and considerate nature. He notes, "Vijay understands the intricacies of our stunts, including the number of punches and the techniques for executing attacks. We engage in discussions to ensure our performances are as realistic as possible."
Concluding the dialogue, Jaiwanth shares his aspirations of becoming a versatile actor capable of portraying more significant roles in the future. "I now possess the confidence to take on any type of character, and I attribute this growth to Vetrimaaran, sir."
