Jackie Shroff Addresses Baby John's Box Office Woes: "I Feel Bad for the Producers, Not Myself"

Varun Dhawan and Atlee's highly awaited film, Baby John, underperformed at the box office. In a conversation with India Today, Jackie Shroff, who portrayed the villain in the movie, shared his thoughts on its disappointing performance and reflected on the implications of this outcome for him as an actor.

Jackie Shroff on Baby John's failure

Jackie Shroff expressed the impact of a film's failure on producers, stating, "Producers are indeed affected. They invest substantial amounts of money with faith in these projects. When they do not recoup their investment, it is unfortunate. As actors, we naturally desire appreciation for our performances, but we also hope for the film's success."

When inquired whether the film's failure causes him distress, Jackie Shroff downplayed it, remarking, "One does feel a sense of sadness, but not for oneself; it is for the producers. You strive to perform your role with dedication, yet it is essential to consider those who have invested their resources."

Baby John's box office performance

Produced with a budget exceeding ₹180 crore, Baby John is a remake of Atlee's film Theri, which originally featured Vijay. The cast includes Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Varun Dhawan, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav; however, the film did not perform well at the box office, garnering only ₹60.4 crore globally and ₹39.34 crore within India.

Jackie Shroff is set to appear in Vivek Chauhan's upcoming film Baap, which also features Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty, and Sunny Deol in prominent roles. The actor revealed the first look of the film in 2022, captioning it on Instagram with, "Shoot dhamaal, dosti (friendship) bemisaal.” Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is slated to star alongside his Bawaal co-star Janhvi Kapoor in Karan Johar's Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. This film, which also includes Sanya Malhotra, Rohit Saraf, and Maniesh Paul, is set to be released in theatres on April 18, 2025.
