Inquiry into Tom Cruise's Appearance: Did He Undergo Botox or Fillers? A Plastic Surgeon Discusses His Altered Look

During the Super Bowl, Tom Cruise appeared in a pregame advertisement. The 62-year-old actor's visage in the commercial quickly garnered significant attention online, with numerous viewers describing it as ‘strange, swollen, artificial, and taut.’ One individual remarked, “He has reached a stage where he no longer resembles Tom Cruise.”

The advertisement became even more surprising for many, as a trailer for his upcoming film Mission: Impossible was shown just ten minutes prior, in which Tom appeared to look like his familiar self. A plastic surgeon informed the Daily Mail that he exhibited signs of recent dermal fillers in his cheeks and had utilized Botox to immobilize the muscles, thereby minimizing the appearance of wrinkles.

Did Tom Cruise get Botox and fillers?

Dr. Gaurav Bharti, a plastic surgeon affiliated with HKB Cosmetic Surgery in Charlotte, North Carolina, stated to the Daily Mail, "Tom Cruise has generally aged quite well over the years. However, the most notable change is in the definition of his jawline, which appears to be fuller during the Super Bowl, giving him a somewhat stretched appearance, in contrast to his usual sharp definition." The physician explained that such changes may occur when fillers are excessively applied in specific regions, leading to skin stretching and an increase in facial volume.

No invasive surgery for Cruise

Multiple plastic surgeons have informed the publication that while the actor appears to have undergone filler treatments, it is less likely that he has engaged in any invasive surgical procedures, as the skin around his jawline seems too loose for such interventions.

Additionally, a source revealed to InTouch in 2024 that the actor is averse to the idea of surgery, fearing it may result in him resembling a caricature of himself. In fact, in 2021, he experienced a distressing situation with overly plump cheeks after being persuaded to receive facial fillers, which took several months to diminish.

According to the Daily Mail, fillers typically have a duration of six to eight months and are priced between $500 and $1,200 per syringe. For those unfamiliar, fillers are gel-like substances injected beneath the skin to restore lost volume, eliminate wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. They are usually composed of either natural or synthetic materials, with hyaluronic acid being the most common.

Another plastic surgeon, Dr. David Pincus, suggested that the actor might have chosen fat grafting over fillers. This procedure involves extracting fat cells from one part of the body and re-injecting them into the face to achieve a more natural appearance. Reportedly, this procedure costs between $1,500 and $3,800 for a single facial area.
