Comedian Samay Raina's show, India's Got Latent, has been stirring up quite a bit of drama since it dropped, but not in a good way. It's turned into a real controversy magnet, with social media lighting up over its edgy content that has left a lot of viewers feeling offended and upset.

Now, YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, is facing backlash for some of his jokes on the show. Things got heated online after he posed a question to a contestant about whether they'd prefer to “watch their parents have sex for the rest of their life or join them once and put a stop to it.” Ranveer has since apologized for his remarks.

India's Got Latent has found itself in the middle of several heated debates, including insensitive comments about Deepika Padukone's mental health, dramatic walkouts, and even formal legal complaints. Let’s dive into some of these issues.

A contestant made fun of Deepika Padukone's struggle with depression

Last November, a contestant made a comment that seemed to poke fun at Deepika Padukone's struggle with depression, and many people on social media found it pretty insensitive. Bunty Banerjee, the contestant, brought up the birth of Deepika and Ranveer Singh's daughter Dua, saying, “Deepika Padukone also became a mother recently, right? Great, now she knows what depression really looks like.” The camera caught Samay and other panelists, like Raghu Ram and Tanmay Bhat, laughing at the remark. Bunty then added, "I’m not trying to insult breakup-wala depression...I am.” This joke didn’t sit well with a lot of social media users, who felt it downplayed the seriousness of mental health issues.

In hot water over comments about dog meat

A contestant named Jessy Nabam found herself in hot water after a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against her for some controversial comments she made on the show. Jessy, who is from Arunachal Pradesh, responded to host Samay Raina's question about whether she had ever tried dog meat. She mentioned that it's common for people in her region to eat dog meat, although she personally hasn't. She went on to say, “I know this because my friends do, and sometimes they even eat their pets.” This comment stirred up a lot of controversy, resulting in the FIR being filed, as many felt her words were disrespectful and harmed the reputation of the local community.

Costume cutting stunt goes wrong

Samay Raina's show got some heat after contestant Priyanka Halder's performance last December. She stepped in as a model for her friend, a ‘costume cutter’, during an act that was co-judged by comedian Bharti Singh, her husband Haarsh Limbachiyaa, and singer Tony Kakkar.

In their act, which ran for over a minute, Priyanka rocked a red bodycon dress while her friend Adil Mohd worked his magic, turning it into a cut-out style. A lot of viewers weren't impressed and voiced their opinions. The backlash intensified when it came to light that Priyanka is married and has a 15-year-old son.

Uorfi Javed stepped out of the show

Uorfi Javed left the show last year and later opened up about it on her Instagram Stories. She revealed that two contestants verbally attacked her and humiliated her in front of everyone, which led to her decision to walk away. She expressed, “I must have missed the memo because it seems like people think it’s okay to insult someone or shame them for attention. I’m not cool with anyone abusing me or shaming me for my past (which they have no clue about but just assume it’s wild). All this for what? A couple of minutes of fame? The guy who insulted me wasn’t even joking; he got really angry when I questioned why he was pretending to be handicapped! He just went off on me in front of a crowd.” She also mentioned that the show's team supported her afterward and that she holds no grudges against Samay Raina.
