Imtiaz Ali’s Shocking Switch: Why Alia Bhatt Over Deepika Padukone?
5 days ago | 5 Views
Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has collaborated with prominent actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Alia Bhatt in his cinematic projects. In a recent interview with Komal Nahta for his podcast, Game Changers, Ali expressed a preference for Alia over Deepika. This prompted the resurfacing of an older video in which Deepika claimed to be Imtiaz's favorite.
When Deepika said she's Imtiaz Ali's favourite
During a rapid-fire segment, when asked to choose between Deepika Padukone and Alia, Imtiaz opted for Alia. In response, Reddit users unearthed a previous interview with Deepika on Film Companion, where she mentioned that she and Imtiaz regarded each other as favorites. Notably, Alia was also present during that discussion.
Deepika remarked, “Imtiaz wrote Cocktail, but he directed Tamasha. We are each other’s favorites.” A Reddit user shared the video, commenting, “Imtiaz really gave her a reality check.”
The re-emergence of this video led some Reddit users to label Deepika as “delusional.” Comments included, “This is embarrassing,” “Oops, Deepu… ultimate betrayal,” and “Why is she always delulu?”
Conversely, several fans came to Deepika's defense. One user stated, “I love how someone waited for years for his answer to change just to make this edit. He picked Deepika for the same question during his Koffee with Karan appearance. Perhaps Alia Bhatt’s recent performances have led him to appreciate her more. What a petty post.” Another added, “Actually, Deepika is being generous when she claims he’s also her favorite. Tamasha was a flawed film about a man-child needing to be fixed by someone. Directors and actors frequently shift their favorites based on current trends—there’s no genuine loyalty.”
Deepika has collaborated with Imtiaz on two films—Love Aaj Kal (with Saif Ali Khan) and Tamasha (with Ranbir Kapoor). Alia, on the other hand, has worked with Imtiaz in Highway.
Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt’s recent and upcoming projects
Deepika Padukone's most recent appearance was in Rohit Shetty's film, Singham Again. This movie features a star-studded cast, including Ajay Devgn, Tiger Shroff, Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Arjun Kapoor, and it achieved a remarkable ₹372 crore in global box office earnings. The actress has yet to disclose details about her next project.
On the other hand, Alia Bhatt's latest film, Jigra, did not perform well commercially. She is set to appear next in YRF's spy universe film, Alpha, alongside Sharvari. Additionally, she has Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War in her upcoming slate.
