Ibrahim Ali Khan, the son of Saif Ali Khan, made his film debut with Nadaaniyan, which premiered on Netflix in March. Since its release, he has garnered significant attention for various reasons. His performance faced criticism, and a Pakistani critic alleged that Ibrahim responded angrily after the critic ridiculed his debut film. In an interview with Filmfare, Ibrahim acknowledged sending the message and explained his motivations for doing so.
Ibrahim Ali Khan reveals why he responded to Pak critic
Ibrahim was inquired whether it was essential to engage with the Pakistani journalist who criticized Nadaaniyan, to which he replied, 'I recognize that I should not have reacted, but I am still adjusting to public scrutiny. When he made that personal remark regarding my physique, it felt like an unfair attack. However, I will strive to maintain my composure in the future. I acknowledge that my reaction was inappropriate and it will not occur again.' In the same conversation, Ibrahim mentioned that audiences had elevated expectations for his debut film, rather than the 'light-hearted romantic comedy' he presented. 'Social media is currently a hostile environment. They attempted to distort the narrative significantly. As the lead actor, I understand that I must deliver much more than I did. I am confident in my abilities and believe I will meet those expectations in my upcoming projects. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with the outcome of the film,' he stated in defense of his work.
What happened
Following the release of Nadaaniyan in March, a film critic named Tamur Iqbal from Pakistan utilized his Instagram stories to ridicule the movie. He criticized Ibrahim's acting abilities and mocked his prominent nose. Subsequently, he shared a screenshot of a direct message Ibrahim had sent him on his feed. In the screenshot, Ibrahim stated, 'Tamur, almost like Taimur... you have my brother's name. However, what you lack is his appearance. You are an unattractive individual; since you cannot contain your thoughts, do not bother sharing them, as they are as insignificant as you are. You repugnant piece of filth, I pity you and your family - and should I encounter you on the streets one day, I will ensure you appear even less appealing than you already do - you despicable being.'
When the screenshot first surfaced, many were unsure if it was real or doctored, but Ibrahim’s silence on the matter gave it away. Nadaaniyan, directed by Shauna Gautam, also starred Khushi Kapoor.
