"I Missed Irrfan So Much": Konkona Sensharma Remembers Late Actor While Filming Metro... In Dino

2 months ago | 5 Views

Konkona Sensharma kicked off her journey in Hindi cinema with Page 3, which came out 20 years ago. Before that, she had already made a name for herself in Bengali and English films, even snagging a National Award for Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002). At the time, she didn’t really see Page 3 as her big Bollywood debut since she was still figuring out if acting was her thing or if she should just go for a regular job.

Exploring Mumbai and making new friends while shooting for Page 3

Konkona shared with Hindustan Times that she really got to know Mumbai while filming Page 3. Madhur Bhandarkar and his team took her around the city on local trains, and those memories are unforgettable for her. She discovered some amazing spots and met fantastic people along the way. Her friendships with Tara Sharma and Sandhya Mridul are still going strong. This experience played a big role in her decision to stay in the acting scene. After wrapping up Page 3, she made the choice to move to Mumbai.

Konkona mentioned that even back in the day, she didn't stress too much about how the industry viewed her since it's not a monolith. This came up when she was asked about how people's opinions of her have changed over time. She believes there's not much she can do to sway others' perceptions. For her, the recognition she gets feels like a bit of a hidden blessing, and she feels lucky to have found acceptance.

Konkona Sensharma loves collaborating with Anurag Basu, particularly on Metro... In Dino

There are some really cool projects lined up for the actor, including Metro... In Dino. Anurag Basu's new sequel to Life in a... Metro has Konkona returning as a familiar face from both the 2007 and 2017 films.

She mentioned that she adores Anurag, calling him such a wonderful person—so chill and easygoing. He really brings everyone together. You can see his expertise in filmmaking through his deep understanding and skill in his craft. Konkona loves working with him. Even though she’s the only link between the two films, she doesn’t feel any pressure. After all, it’s just Anurag, and he has all the right qualities to pull it off.

Thinking about Irrfan Khan while putting together the sequel

Konkona had an amazing experience working with Anurag the first time around, but this time she can't help but feel the absence of Irrfan Khan. She reminisces about their time together on the first film, and as they shot some scenes, thoughts of him kept coming to her mind. She had affectionately called Irrfan "Monty" during that project. While she felt a wave of sadness during certain moments, she was also lost in memories of him. Still, reconnecting with Anurag has been a fantastic journey, and now Konkona is really looking forward to the film's release.

Later this year, Metro... In Dino will be hitting theaters.
