Humorous Reflections: Shahid Kapoor on Aditya and Geet's Marriage

Imtiaz Ali's 2007 film Jab We Met has achieved cult status as a romantic comedy; however, both the director and the lead male actor express a rather pessimistic view regarding the “happy ending” of the protagonists, Aditya and Geet, portrayed by Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, respectively. In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Shahid concurred with Imtiaz's perspective that Geet and Aditya would likely find themselves “at a divorce lawyer's office” in the present day.

Shahid remarked, “It’s quite an amusing notion that Geet and Aditya are now parting ways due to their mutual frustrations. Aditya might think, ‘She is her own favorite; who could possibly tolerate her?’” Jab We Met experienced a remarkable re-release last year, attracting numerous fans eager to relive the love story of Aditya and Geet on the big screen.
Acknowledging the film's enduring popularity, Shahid Kapoor emphasized that he does not wish to let down the fans but is merely adhering to Imtiaz's artistic vision. “If our director believes these two will end up divorcing, who am I to intervene? I am simply an actor,” he stated. Notably, Jab We Met premiered during a period when Shahid and Kareena had recently ended their long-term relationship, as Kareena began dating her current husband, Saif Ali Khan.

Since their breakup and their collaboration in Jab We Met, Shahid and Kareena have not worked together again. Although they were part of the cast in Abhishek Chaubey's 2016 film Udta Punjab, they did not share any scenes.
During the trailer launch of the film, they were questioned about the possibility of a sequel to Jab We Met. Kareena suggested that the decision should rest with Imtiaz, while Shahid humorously noted that the director has “moved on.” Kareena further mentioned that for those longing for Jab We Met, a DVD is always accessible, which elicited amusement from Shahid.
Shahid is set to appear next in Deva and Vishal Bhardwaj's upcoming project, while Kareena's most recent role was in Singham Again.
