Kiran Rao's directorial Laapataa Ladies was released in March this year. Backed by Aamir Khan and Jio Studios, the film stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam in key roles. Ever since it was released, the film has been making the right noise. Today, September 23, Kiran and Aamir's film made headlines again as it became India's official entry for the Oscars 2025. Soon after the news came in, the internet has been gushing over it. Reportedly, Laapataa Ladies was competing with films like Ranbir Kapoor's Animal, Prabhas's Kalki 2898 AD, the National Award-winning Malayalam film Aattam, Kartik Aaryan's Chandu Champion, Rajkummar Rao's Srikanth, and Vicky Kaushal's Sam Bahadur, among others. 

Now, the director has reacted to the good news and she is truly on cloud nine! Interestingly, Kiran recently expressed her wish to see her film going to the Oscars. Kiran Rao reacted to the big news and said that she was 'honored'. She even expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the "selection committee and to everyone who believed in this film".

The ace director said, "I am deeply honored and beyond delighted that our film ‘Laapataa Ladies’ has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards. This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of my entire team, whose dedication and passion brought this story to life. Cinema has always been a powerful medium to connect hearts, transcend boundaries, and ignite meaningful conversations. I hope that this film will resonate with audiences across the world, just as it has in India."

Kiran added, "I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the selection committee and to everyone who believed in this film. ​It is indeed a great privilege to be selected from among such amazing Indian films this year - who are equally worthy contenders for this honor."

Laapataa Ladies was successfully running in theatres when it was released on Netflix. The film opened to overwhelming response, in theatres and on OTT. The film revolves around two newlywedded brides who get exchanged on the same train. Both of them go through their ups and downs in this journey. This sweet film will surely put a big smile on your face.
