Chinese actress Zhao Lusi, renowned internationally for her role in the Netflix series Hidden Love, was recently hospitalized. Following her hospitalization, an image of her in a wheelchair emerged.

Currently, on her path to recovery, Zhao has candidly shared her challenging experiences related to abuse and mental health issues. She disclosed that her weight had previously plummeted to a mere 36.7 kg; however, she has fortunately regained weight with the support of her parents.

Zhao Lusi’s health concern sparks outcry

Concerns regarding Zhao Lusi's health intensified when she was spotted in a wheelchair, leading a close associate to reveal troubling information. This associate alleged that an individual within her company had mistreated her, while others in the organization purportedly ignored the situation.

Her management promptly announced that the actress had halted all professional engagements, issuing a statement that read, “On the 18th, Ms. Zhao Lusi experienced a sudden illness and sought medical examination and treatment without delay. She is presently adhering to the doctor's recommendations for treatment and recovery.”

Zhao Lusi breaks her silence

On January 1, Zhao utilized Weibo to respond to the allegations against her and to convey her perspective through an emotional letter. A copy of the post obtained by Koreaboo reveals that the C-drama actress commenced her message with an apology for the attention surrounding her situation, while also detailing the impact her illness and personal struggles have had on her life.

Zhao recognized that she had not always been open about her difficulties, accepting some of the responsibility for this while emphasizing the detrimental culture that silences victims. She stated, “It is unjust for someone without support to be silenced while their abuser becomes increasingly audacious, irrespective of their profession, age, or gender. It is absurd to compel an individual to revisit past traumas to demonstrate that they are not ‘overthinking,’ ‘too weak,’ or ‘dissatisfied.’”

Furthermore, she asserted that only medical professionals should have the authority to assess the severity of an individual’s trauma or validate its authenticity, particularly after some individuals accused her of seeking attention.

Shocking abuse revelations

The actress from the C-drama shared her experiences of being physically assaulted by a teacher during tutoring sessions. As an adult, she endured violence after not succeeding in an acting audition, feeling pressured to keep silent about the incident. Zhao also disclosed that the individual her friend exposed as an abuser not only inflicted harm upon her but also resorted to threats of self-harm as a means of manipulation.

Following the conclusion of the abuse, she encountered slander and unfounded rumours within the industry, which exacerbated her suffering. “Ultimately, she insisted on a substantial ‘contract termination fee’ before she ceased her episodes of crying, creating disturbances, and threatening self-harm. Even after that, she continued to spread slander and rumours about me, both within the industry and beyond.”

Struggles with weight and mental health

Zhao revealed in her statement that her weight had fallen to a perilously low 37 kg as a result of the psychological impact of her experiences. She recounted instances of being blackmailed and dominated by the alleged perpetrator, who is said to have employed threats and emotional manipulation to maintain control over her.

Supporters have united in their backing of the actress, amplifying her story across various online platforms. The actress seems to be prioritizing her healing process. She expressed gratitude to those who have supported her during these challenging times, acknowledging that their love and care have been instrumental in helping her regain the strength to move forward.
