Actor and BJP MP Hema Malini brought up the topic of "deepfake" technology in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, highlighting how it affects celebrities. She emphasized that this issue shouldn't be overlooked, as it damages the reputation of those involved and can have a significant negative effect on the mental well-being of the victims.

During Zero Hour, Hema brought up the growing influence of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology. She acknowledged that while there are benefits to these advancements, they often target film industry celebrities.

"These stars have put in a lot of effort to build their names and reputations. Unfortunately, many of us have fallen victim to this cruel misuse, which leads to the creation of fake videos that damage the individual's reputation. These videos can go viral and have a serious effect on the mental health of those affected," Hema stated. "This is a serious issue that shouldn't be ignored," she emphasized.

The actor-politician also highlighted the problem of social media being used to make harsh comments about celebrities' personal lives, frequently distorting the truth to fit a particular agenda.

Hema Malini: A Brief Overview

Hema enjoyed a remarkable and successful career in the film industry before making her move into politics. She kicked off her acting journey in 1963 with the Tamil movie Idhu Sathiyam, followed by her Hindi debut in 1968 with Sapno Ka Saudagar. During the 1970s, she earned the title of ‘Dream Girl’ in Bollywood.

She starred in a multitude of Hindi films, many of which were successful, especially those alongside Dharmendra. The couple tied the knot in 1980 and have two daughters, Esha and Ahana, who are also in the acting scene. In 2004, she officially became a member of the BJP after supporting the party since 1999.
