In an interview with India Today, Farida Jalal has reacted to the backlash Sharmin Segal has received for her performance in Heeramandi. The veteran actress said Segal did her best with whatever tools she had at her disposal. Jalal stated she isn't happy about the fact Sharmin is getting trolled. The senior actress felt Alamzeb's character didn't need to be very boisterous and loud.

Farida also mentioned that people are being too mean to Sharmin. "What were you expecting? Yes, what you thought you needed… It’s ok, why should we be mean to the girl? Be kind, maybe that’s her capacity, just that much. I don’t think the real role was boisterous, it wasn’t. She is a shayara, she falls in love with my bacchha (Taha Shah’s character) and that’s it," said Jalal.
