Actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor has shared his perspective on the prevailing sentiment that "Bollywood is finished." He believes it is crucial for the industry to move beyond its obsession with star power and formulaic narratives, and instead return to the essence of filmmaking: storytelling.

Kapoor lamented that many of the projects currently receiving approval seem reminiscent of the 1980s. He assured his audience that he is dedicated to creating "unforgettable films."

Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor expresses his views

The discussion was sparked by a social media user who posted on X, previously known as Twitter, stating, "Bollywood is finished. Salman doesn’t want to act, Aamir has no projects, Akshay has numerous films but they lack substance, SRK releases a film every two years, and while Ajay could achieve more, he is playing it safe. Ranbir Kapoor appears to be the only one carrying the torch."

In response, Harsh Varrdhan commented, "Bollywood should not be solely focused on established stars and formulaic films. It is time for producers and financiers to take risks on low-budget, high-concept films that break away from conventional tropes. By prioritizing innovative storytelling and keeping production costs low, audiences will be drawn in. We can create films in the 8-15 crore range with minimal expenses that rival those costing two to three times more. This is because every rupee is invested in the film's production rather than unnecessary expenditures. It is now 2025, yet the films being green-lit feel like they belong to the 1980s, and not even the best ones from that era."

The actor actively participated in a dialogue with social media users who expressed their opinions and insights regarding the intricacies of the Bollywood industry.

In response to a comment suggesting that he possesses potential but is not utilizing it effectively, Harsh Varrdhan stated, “With all due respect, you have no idea how challenging it is to pursue unconventional or offbeat projects in this industry... It can take years to create a film like Bhavesh or Thar. Movies like Ray and Ak are exceptionally rare. I have been diligently working since their release to develop my next project, and I have taken on the responsibility to produce, co-create, and act rather than simply waiting.”

The actor noted that when a traditional commercial film fails, filmmakers do not abandon their efforts; they simply move on to produce another. He believes that the same mindset should be applied to unconventional narratives and storytelling methods.

He remarked, “There are many other incredibly talented filmmakers eager to create films, but they often lack support. We backed Raj Singh Chaudhary's vision with Thar, even though he was relatively unknown before that.”

In response to a social media user's suggestion for him to consistently support low-budget films, the son of Anil Kapoor replied, “I may not have unlimited funds, but I possess boundless passion and ideas. Filmmaking is a significant endeavor and process, but if I receive backing, I assure you I will deliver unforgettable films.”
