Harrison Ford is poised to bid farewell to Hollywood, yet he has one final role on the horizon.

The 82-year-old veteran actor is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the forthcoming film Captain America: Brave New World. He will portray General Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, a character previously brought to life by the late William Hurt, who passed away in March 2022. Nevertheless, the Indiana Jones star has suggested that this could be his last performance.

In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Ford revealed that his plans involve “ceasing work” altogether. “I want to complete what I am currently engaged in,” he remarked.

“I wish to dedicate more time to flying and my family at home. There are aspects of my life beyond the realm of cinema.”

The most recent instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise, titled Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, faced challenges at the box office, generating only $60 million during its opening weekend in 2022. An insider revealed to Radar Online in 2023, “Harrison is accustomed to seeing Indiana Jones celebrated as one of cinema's iconic heroes. This level of rejection is quite embarrassing for him. At 81, he is contemplating retirement from the role.”

Reflecting on the character's final adventure, Ford remarked, “I was genuinely the one who believed there was another story to be told. After [Indy] had endured the repercussions of his life, I wanted one last opportunity to revive him, to brush off the dust and present him in a state of diminished vigour, to observe the outcome.” He added, “I’m still pleased that I made that film.”

The actor encountered similar backlash when he returned to the role of Han Solo in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Furthermore, Ford's more recent endeavours have also faced difficulties.

Taylor Sheridan, the creator behind the Yellowstone series, has opted to conclude the Yellowstone spin-off 1923, which features Ford as Jacob Dutton. A source informed Knewz.com, “Taylor believes he has conveyed the story he intended and is ready to move on. He remains resolute despite facing significant pressure to continue, as 1923 has proven to be a lucrative venture.”
