Filmmaker Hansal Mehta, who recently engaged in a dispute with actress Kangana Ranaut on X (formerly Twitter), expressed his admiration for her. In an interview, Hansal commended the "magic" that Kangana brings to her performances. Reflecting on their collaboration in the film Simran, he noted that her fans often tell him it was his finest work.

Hansal remarked on the unique connection Kangana has with the camera, stating, “I hold her in high regard. It’s difficult to articulate… the camera adores her. Even outside the Lok Sabha, she captivates the lens. She may not even realize the enchantment she creates on screen. We didn’t quite connect; it happens (humari nahi bani, hota hai). I also didn’t connect with my ex-wife. However, she is a better person than I am.”

Discussing Kangana and their project, Simran, he mentioned, “We do have disagreements, but I genuinely care for her. I have a strong fondness for her. This is not a reflection on her character. The filmmaking experience we shared was not particularly positive. That experience lingers with you. I had to settle debts, and it was a challenging journey to do so. Her fans often tell me it was the best film I have created.”
When Hansal prasied Kangana
In 2022, during an interview with Mashable India, Hansal was questioned about whether Kangana had taken control of the editing process for Simran. He responded, “To be fair to her, she did not take over the edit, but there was nothing to take over since we only had the footage that she had filmed.”
He further remarked, “She is an exceptionally talented actress, truly a remarkable performer, but I believe she has limited her potential by focusing on films that revolve around her own persona. It is unnecessary for all characters to reflect what you wish to portray about yourself.” Simran (2017) is a heist drama directed by Hansal, inspired loosely by the true story of Sandeep Kaur, who committed bank robberies after suffering losses in gambling. The film also features Hiten Kumar, Kishori Shahane, and Sohum Shah.
Recent Dispute Between Hansal and Kangana
Recently, Hansal and Kangana engaged in a dispute on social media regarding the controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra's stand-up performance. Hansal posted a critical tweet aimed at Kunal, expressing his disapproval. When someone inquired about his lack of comments on the demolition of Kangana's house, Hansal replied, “Was her house vandalized? Did intruders enter her property? Was this act intended to challenge her freedom of expression or due to alleged FSI violations? Please inform me, as I may not be aware of the details.”
In response, Kangana Ranaut shared Hansal's tweet, expressing that she had endured abuse and witnessed her home being destroyed. She also criticized Hansal, labeling him as "bitter and stupid."
