Hansal Mehta on Nadaaniyan Stars Khushi & Ibrahim – ‘Awkward Debuts Are Normal’
3 days ago | 5 Views
On March 7, the film Nadaaniyan, featuring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, made its debut on Netflix. However, both critics and audiences expressed their dissatisfaction with the film. Numerous individuals took to social media to voice their discontent regarding the actors' performances, with some resorting to harsh trolling. In response to these criticisms, Hansal Mehta has urged viewers to take a step back. He also pointed out that producers bear responsibility for casting actors who may lack the necessary training to effectively fulfill their roles.
Hansal Mehta defends emerging talent
In a recent interview, Mehta remarked that the derogatory comments circulating online are in poor taste. He noted that such remarks could be "traumatizing" for the young actors involved. In support of these emerging talents, the director humorously mentioned that even their parents had awkward beginnings in their careers. However, he highlighted that social media was not prevalent at that time, which spared them from similar scrutiny.
Ibrahim is the son of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh, while Khushi Kapoor is the daughter of the late Sridevi and Boney Kapoor.
Mehta emphasized the importance of ensuring that the cast and crew are adequately prepared when commissioning films. He argued that it is unjust to select performers based solely on their familial connections; rather, they should be chosen for their talent.
Blaming advisors for poor career choices
He also attributed poor career decisions to the advisors of these young actors. Mehta recounted an instance where he approached one actor regarding a film project, only to learn that their advisors recommended a more conventional approach, advocating for a swift launch with a film featuring popular music. According to Mehta, these advisors are aiming for the same kind of debut that stars like Hrithik Roshan, Tiger Shroff, Kumar Gaurav, and Sunny Deol experienced. The current issue stems from the presence of advisors who fail to adapt to contemporary trends.
Instead of relying on a major production company or a prominent figure for guidance, Mehta suggested that these star children should focus on earning respect through their work. He shared that he had engaging discussions with these young stars but expressed disappointment that their choices do not align with their expressed views.
Influence of paparazzi over craft
He further stated that paparazzi hold greater significance than film cameras in terms of their training.
Khushi took on the leading role in Nadaaniyan after her performances in The Archies and Loveyapa. Concurrently, this Netflix film also marked Ibrahim's first appearance in the industry.
