3 days ago | 5 Views
Ibrahim Ali Khan made his entry into Bollywood with the Karan Johar-produced film Nadaaniyan, where he starred alongside Khushi Kapoor. Unfortunately, their performances and delivery of lines attracted negative attention from online trolls. In a conversation with ETimes, filmmaker Hansal Mehta came to the defence of these young actors, labelling the criticisms as "in terrible taste."
Hansal Mehta supports Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor
When questioned about his perspective on the backlash against Nadaaniyan and the public's view of the star children, Mehta expressed, "I believe that the criticism is excessively harsh and unjust. It is disheartening to consider whether we have evaluated the readiness of these young individuals prior to their debut. The remarks being made are in very poor taste. I can only imagine how distressing this must be for them. We often overlook the fact that many of their parents also faced awkward beginnings in their careers. They too had challenging debuts, but at that time, they were not under the same level of scrutiny as today’s actors, largely due to the influence of social media."
He stressed the importance of those involved in the commissioning, production, and direction of films to ensure that actors and their teams are sufficiently prepared before their introduction to the industry. Additionally, he highlighted the unfairness of assuming that someone will naturally excel in acting simply because of their family background.
Hansal Mehta slams actors' advisors
Hansal recounted his experience of approaching one of the young actors for a film that was quite unconventional for a newcomer. However, their advisors believed that the actor should pursue a more traditional path, aiming for a rapid entry into the industry and receiving the same level of promotion as established stars like Kumar Gaurav, Sunny Deol, Hrithik Roshan, or Tiger Shroff.
He expressed, "They aspire to be launched by a prominent production house, regardless of whether they possess a compelling concept. They seek the backing of a major entity and desire constant guidance from influential figures. It saddens me to witness them facing ridicule from others. My only advice to them is to remain focused on their craft. Once they deliver a strong performance, irrespective of the film's box office success, they will earn respect. Their primary goal should be to gain recognition through their work."
