Hanni of NewJeans Refuses to Sign ADOR's Visa Extension Documents Despite Expiration: Report
1 month ago | 5 Views
NewJeans member Hanni has allegedly refused to sign documents that would ensure her continued residence in South Korea following the expiration of her visa, amidst a continuing dispute with the K-pop agency ADOR. This decision follows the group's rebranding as NJZ, indicating their separation from HYBE and its affiliated entities.
Hanni refuses to sign visa extension paper
On February 11 (KST), reports from K-media indicated that Hanni, a prominent member of a female K-pop group who holds dual citizenship in Australia and Vietnam but is not a South Korean citizen, has declined to sign the documents provided by ADOR to extend her visa.
A report from TV Daily, referencing industry insiders, revealed that Hanni's E-6 visa has expired this month, which prohibits her from participating in entertainment activities within Korea. The situation is further complicated by her group's ongoing legal issues with ADOR, which have hindered her ability to sign with a new agency. The report stated, “Due to the unresolved exclusive contract lawsuit filed by Adore, she is unable to take the risk of entering into a contract with a new agency.”
In response to questions regarding Hanni's visa status, ADOR remarked, "We cannot confirm this information," while refraining from offering further comments. There is increasing speculation that Hanni's inability to participate in entertainment activities in South Korea may lead the group to concentrate on promoting internationally.
NewJeans' new identity
NewJeans has transformed into NJZ following the conclusion of their contract with ADOR in November of the previous year. The group is preparing for a significant return with a concert scheduled for March in Hong Kong, during which they will also unveil a new single.
This rebranding occurs amidst an ongoing legal conflict with ADOR regarding the validity of their contract termination. This dispute escalated after the agency initiated a lawsuit in January, subsequent to the group's press conference in November 2024, where they announced their separation.
As Hanni's visa has now lapsed, she may encounter legal complications should she attempt to affiliate with a new agency. In the meantime, NJZ is poised to create a new impression by having its members perform individually at an upcoming festival, which could represent their first major public appearance since departing from ADOR.
