Social media influencer Apoorva Mukhija has returned to Instagram with a post highlighting the numerous comments and mentions she received, including threats of rape and death. This situation escalated following a complaint lodged against Apoorva, Ranveer Allahbadia, and comedian Samay Raina regarding a series of allegedly controversial and offensive statements made during India's Got Latent in February. In response to Apoorva's post, Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has expressed her support through her Instagram Stories.
Hania voices support for Apoorva
Hania shared a recent post from fashion commentator Sufi Motiwala's Instagram account, where he addressed the hundreds of rape threats and mentions of acid attacks directed at Apoorva in recent weeks. In his post, Sufi affirmed his support for Apoorva, stating that no woman should endure such despicable comments and urging more individuals to speak out against this issue.
In her Instagram Stories, Hania commented, “a separate place in hell.”
About the controversy
Following the uproar surrounding India's Got Latent, Apoorva ceased her social media activity, removing all previous posts and unfollowing everyone on Instagram. Her recent post included a trigger warning and featured several screenshots of the abusive comments and threats she received. She captioned the post, “And that’s not even 1%.” In another message, she stated, “Don't take away the story from the storyteller.”
During this tumultuous period, Apoorva took a break from social media and refrained from promoting Nadaaniyan, in which she had a supporting role. A few days after the film's release, Sufi complimented Apoorva's personal style in a separate reel, to which she responded, “Got hated so hard that now even Sufi Motiwala doesn’t say hateful things about me.”
