Gwyneth shared that her character and Timothee's character engage in numerous intimate scenes throughout the film. Consequently, an intimacy coordinator was present on set to assist the actors. However, Gwyneth expressed her discomfort with this modern approach. “There’s now something called an intimacy coordinator, which I was previously unaware of," she remarked, adding, “I come from a time when you simply got undressed, climbed into bed, and the camera was rolling.”

Gwyneth mentioned that both she and Timothee requested the intimacy coordinator to take a step back and allow them to perform freely. “We said, ‘We believe we can handle this. You can take a step back.’ I’m not sure how it is for newcomers in the industry, but if someone were to dictate, ‘Okay, and then he’s going to place his hand here,’ I would feel quite constrained as an artist.”

Intimacy coordinators in film

The introduction of intimacy coordinators in the film industry has sparked a debate among both actors and audiences. While numerous performers have welcomed this new role, asserting that it contributes to a secure and professional atmosphere on set, others consider it superfluous. In a conversation with Variety, Jennifer Aniston expressed skepticism regarding the necessity of such coordinators, stating, “They asked us if we wanted an intimacy coordinator. I’m from the olden days, so I was like, ‘What does that mean?’” She further elaborated, “They said, ‘Where someone asks you if you’re OK,’ and I’m like, ‘Please, this is awkward enough!’ We’re seasoned — we can figure this one out.”
