Ulajh, directed by Sudhanshu Saria stars Janhvi Kapoor, Gulshan Devaiah, and Roshan Matthew released in theatres on August 2, 2024. The film opened with low numbers at the box office and continued to struggle with numbers even on the second day. After collecting Rs. 1.20 crore on its opening day, the film minted Rs. 1.70 crore on the second day. When OTTplay reported that the box office report of the film stated that it was 'struggling' at the ticket window, Gulshan reacted to it. Here's what he said!

Gulshan Devaiah reacts to Ulajh's weak box office performance

Taking to his X (Twitter) account, Gulshan Devaiah shared OTTplay's tweet reporting the details about Ulajh's box office and said, “Struggle is the salt that makes success taste good. The ones who don’t embrace the struggle will never achieve anything worthwhile. This is a tough business. Period.”

Take a look at his tweet below:

After Devaiah's tweet, a social media user pointed out that the film should have been released on an OTT platform and not in theatres. He wrote: “Sir it’s question of removing the big screen obsession and going where the consumers are going – OTT is the future. This would have found love appreciation and big numbers on OTT. But wrongly distributed by going to cinemas.”

To this, Gulshan replied, “Feature films are meant to be seen on the big screen. Hit flop toh chalta rahta hai. As pragmatic as I am about a lot of things , I’m not willing to let go of my idealism when it comes to cinema. I also don’t expect people to understand this. It’s a very personal thing for me.”

Meanwhile, talking about Gulshan Devaiah's performance, an excerpt from the OTTplay review of the film read: "Gulshan Devaiah plays the story's "villain," Nakul, and exudes the charm of a wicked boy so effortlessly that watching him is a treat. Furthermore, it's not surprising for an actor of his calibre to effortlessly embody the character's essence."

Ulajh has taken its total collection in India to Rs. 2.85 crore. Let's wait and see if the Sunday business works in favor of the film. The film was released alongside Ajay Devgn and Tabu starrer Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, which is also struggling to mint good numbers at the box office. Both films are facing tough competition with the Hollywood Superhero film 'Deadpool & Wolverine', which has crossed Rs. 100 crore mark.
