In her interview with MoneyControl, Sonam Nair disclosed that Sparsh's inspiration for the character Dupahiya stemmed from Govinda's films. She provided him with CDs of Govinda's early works, such as Street Dancer and Love 86, from a period when the actor had recently entered Bollywood and had not yet become known for his comedic roles. "He grasped the concept well, and I did not need to provide much direction. My aim was to encapsulate the essence of the 80s throughout the series, including the music," she remarked, emphasizing that the show's aesthetic is infused with the spirit of that decade.

Sonam Nair casted Sparsh Srivastava without watching him in Laapataa Ladies

Sonam Nair revealed that she had not previously seen Sparsh in Laapataa Ladies prior to casting him for Dupahiya. She also had not viewed his performance in Jamtara, which meant her perspective on the actor was entirely fresh. All Sonam was certain of was her desire to conduct a screen test with Sparsh. Afterward, she did watch Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies and cautioned Sparsh that Dupahiya would present a markedly different experience. The culmination of this process is now evident.

Regarding the comparisons with Panchayat

Sonam acknowledged the observations made by the viewers. She expressed that while it is flattering for people to draw parallels, Dupahiya stands apart from Panchayat. "If someone finds our show to be similar, I welcome that," she stated, encouraging audiences to watch both Panchayat and Dupahiya to fully appreciate their distinctiveness.
