On Tuesday, news hit the internet suggesting that Bollywood star Govinda was splitting from Sunita Ahuja after 38 years of marriage. This stirred quite a buzz. But now, Govinda's lawyer, Lalit Bindal, has stepped in to clear things up, telling India Today that the couple has reconciled.

Govinda's attorney addresses the divorce speculation

Govinda's lawyer confirmed that Sunita Ahuja did file for divorce about six months ago, but they managed to work things out. He mentioned, “We even took a trip to Nepal for New Year and did puja together at Pashupatinath Mandir. Everything is good between them now. Couples go through ups and downs, but they’re really strong and committed to each other.”

He also shot down the rumors about the couple living apart, explaining that Govinda purchased a bungalow for official purposes after becoming an MP. This place is right across from their flat, where they’ve lived since getting married. The lawyer noted that the actor sometimes uses it for meetings and occasionally stays overnight.

Regarding Sunita’s recent podcast appearances, he pointed out that her comments were taken out of context. He clarified, “For instance, when she said, ‘Mujhe Govinda jaisa pati nahi chahiye’ (I don’t want Govinda as my husband in my next birth), she also mentioned wanting a son like him. And when she talked about him being with his own Valentine, she was referring to work. It’s a shame that people are only focusing on the negative when they’re actually together, and I can assure you they always will be. There’s no divorce on the horizon.”

Sunita mentioned the idea of living apart

In a recent chat with Pinkvilla’s Hindi Rush, Sunita opened up about their living situation, mentioning, “We have two places, including a bungalow right across from our apartment. I’ve got my temple and the kids in the flat. We stay in the flat, while he usually comes home late after his meetings. He’s a social butterfly, often inviting ten people over to chat. My son, daughter, and I are together, but we don’t talk much because I believe that too much talking drains your energy.”

Govinda and Sunita Ahuja got married in 1987, before he became a big name in Bollywood. They kept their marriage under wraps until they welcomed their daughter, Tina Ahuja, the next year. They also have a son, Yashvardhan, who was born in 1997.
