Govinda Claims Victory in Slap Case, Says Accuser Demanded ₹4 Crore in Sting Operation

In 2017, actor Govinda resolved a legal matter concerning an incident in which he allegedly slapped a fan on the set of his film over ten years prior. The actor has since described the case as 'fortunate' for him, asserting that it was dismissed after he conducted a sting operation that exposed his accuser.
Govinda on the slapping case
Regarding the slapping incident, in 2008, a man named Santosh was present on the set of Govinda's film "Money Hai Toh Honey Hai" when an altercation led to the actor slapping him. Santosh subsequently filed a lawsuit against Govinda for assault, seeking financial compensation. In a discussion on Mukesh Khanna's YouTube channel, Govinda remarked, “The slapping case turned out to be quite lucky for me. Someone was behaving inappropriately, and I responded by slapping him. The legal proceedings lasted for nine years, and ultimately, a friend advised me to conduct a sting operation and record his statements. He demanded ₹3-4 crores to withdraw the case. I documented that conversation and submitted it to the court.”
Govinda later explained that he slapped Santosh due to his inappropriate behavior towards several women on the film crew. “His name was Santosh. Many women urged me to take no further action against him and to treat him with respect. I realized that I had no support; those who had previously stood by me were now attempting to undermine me,” he stated. The case was settled in 2017 when the Supreme Court instructed Govinda to apologize to Santosh, who subsequently retracted his request for financial compensation.

In terms of his recent career, following a series of successful films in the 1990s and a resurgence in the mid-2000s, Govinda's output diminished during the 2010s. Aside from minor roles in "Holiday" and "Kill Dil," he primarily appeared in films that faced delays. His most recent performances on the big screen were in the 2018 film "FryDay" and the 2019 film Rangeela Raja."
