Golden Globes Host Nikki Glaser Claims She Would Have Worked for Free Despite Pay Gap
5 hours ago | 5 Views
Nikki Glaser served as the host for the Golden Globe Awards earlier this week. Nevertheless, during her appearance on The Howard Stern Show the following morning, she asserted that her compensation was "pretty" but still lower than that of a previous male host of the Golden Globes.
What Nikki said
I believe I am fairly compensated for my work. I feel content with my situation. During this initial year, as I strive to establish my reputation, I would have willingly undertaken this role without financial compensation. The opportunity presented by this platform is extraordinary. For me, the focus is not on monetary gain. When individuals comment on my hard work, I respond, "Who wouldn’t?" I find it difficult to comprehend. There have certainly been instances where my effort was less intense, but the current stakes are unprecedented, remarked Nikki.
A previous host once disclosed his salary during a monologue, and I received a lesser amount; however, I am at peace with that, as I anticipate a higher compensation next year. Nikki, who is rumoured to have secured a three-year agreement with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to host the Golden Globes, did not confirm this arrangement due to a lack of formal communication. Nevertheless, she acknowledged having heard some discussions regarding it. She expressed her belief that it would be surprising if they did not invite her back, given the challenges in finding suitable candidates for significant hosting roles such as this.
Which male host is she referring to?
The male host who got paid more than her – Nikki might be alluding to Jerrod Carmichael, who claimed he got $500,000 for hosting the Golden Globes in 2023. In his opening monologue, Jerrod had said he faced a “moral, racial dilemma” when asked to host the Globes given the HFPA's contentious history, but he agreed to do it when they offered him $500,000 for the job.
Meanwhile, the audience for this year's Golden Globes telecast declined by 2% from last year to an average of 9.3 million viewers. Nikki took over hosting duties from Jo Koy, who was panned for his hosting job last year.
