Director Ridley Scott's Gladiator II, featuring Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Connie Nielsen, among others, is set to be released globally on November 15, 2024. It will be available on over-the-top (OTT) platforms, specifically through transactional video on demand (rental-only), just 45 days after its theatrical debut.

The film, which received average reviews upon its release, became accessible in India on Amazon Prime Video for Rs 389 starting January 1. The streaming service has now announced the date when Gladiator II will be available at no cost to its subscribers. As per the latest blog post from the platform, Gladiator II is set to commence streaming on March 12, 2025.

The narrative of Gladiator II unfolds 16 years following the events of its predecessor, centering on Lucius (Mescal), the offspring of Maximus (Russell Crowe) and Lucilla (Nielsen). Now a gladiator, Lucius is compelled to battle in the Colosseum after his homeland is overtaken by the despotic Emperors Geta and Caracalla, portrayed by Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger, respectively. As a captive of war, Lucius transitions into a gladiatorial role, receiving training from Macrinus (Washington), a former slave who has been scheming to dethrone Geta and Caracalla.

Gladiator II garnered $435.2 million at the worldwide box office, a sum significantly below the US$700 million required for the film to achieve profitability. Additionally, it did not secure any awards during the season, despite receiving nominations at both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. The film was produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Pruss, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, and David Franzoni, with the screenplay crafted by Peter Craig and David Scarpa.

Production on Gladiator II commenced in June 2023; however, the concept for a sequel focusing on Lucius and his quest to uncover the identity of his biological father was initiated as early as 2001, shortly after the release of the original film. At that time, the creators contemplated the possibility of having Russell Crowe return to reprise his role as Maximus, despite the character's demise in Gladiator.
