Gippy Grewal is all set for the release of his new film Shinda Shinda No Papa, which released in theatres today, May 10, 2024. The film stars Gippy, Hina Khan, and Shinda Grewal in the lead roles. In an exclusive conversation with OTTplay, the actor recently discussed his film. He also shed light on Diljit Dosanjh starrer Amar Singh Chamkila and shared his thoughts on whether makers were trying to whitewash Chamkila's image. Read on to know the details. 

Gippy Grewal on Amar Singh Chamkila

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti starrer Amar Singh Chamkila, directed by Imtiaz Ali received a lot of praise from Bollywood as well as the Punjabi industry. However, there was a part of the audience, who felt that the film was made to whitewash Chamkila's image in society, speaking about the same Gippy Grewal said in Hindi, "After watching the movie, it felt like they portrayed exactly what was there. They showed that the songs of Chamkila, which people were listening to left and right, many were saying were vulgar songs, but people were listening. People were enjoying it."

"We are also among them. I won't talk about others, I have listened to them. But when I go with my family, or when I go somewhere, I understand how to behave, what to say, and what not to say to them. I can't stop anyone, I try to do better and better things. But it's not like you listen to one thing and become like that. When Chamkila Ji sang religious songs, they were also superhits, "Baba Tera Nankana", and "Talwar Main Kalgidhar", they were blockbuster songs of that period. It's not like they sang that song and people think they didn't sing well; they sang songs of all kinds," he added.

Further speaking about how Amar Singh Chamkila wanted to change his choice of songs but he couldn't do it because his audience demanded his old songs, Gippy Grewal said, "And as shown in the movie, they also wanted to change, they wanted not to sing those songs, but people wanted to listen."
